Nut’s Circus Comp. Circulates

The Adventures of Pablo the Circus Boy Compilation is quickly climbing up the Nut Music Sales Chart. Besides the music, the cassette features the elaborate packaging created by Deral Fenderson and Bronwen Cox which cost the Nut Music Corp. an arm and a leg, but provides a never-ending source of amusement to accompany the music. It’s been said that the whole project is overshadowed by the Sisterhood of Convoluted Thinker’s track that Rob Christiansen recorded while being trapped in a recording studio by the blizzard of ’96. Much thanks to Nathan Baker who after ordering a copy ordered three more for friends, including members of Big Top (the punk rock/clown outfit).

Panic Sound System Serenades Satan

July’s broadcast of the Panic Sound System’s Valley of the Paper Doll Soundtrack at the an art opening of giant paper constructions created by Jeff Bagato of Mole magazine fame has been remixed and made available on cassette. The tape features 4 sonifiedfreakoutraveups with instrumentation that ranges from Finn McCool’s violin and ukelele and Sal Amoniac’s noise to Alzo Bozormenyi’s rants. These sonic landscapes straddle the line between the ambient and satanic, enough to make the devil himself reach for his headphones.

Doug H. Hut’s Rants Released

Doug H. Nut’s Inspirational Speeches have been unearthed and now transferred to audio tape. Nut’s nervous rant in the men’s room at a record convention attacks the music business with the force of a toilet flush as he describes his methodology of selling tapes door-to-door. This release will certainly reign as a relic of hometaperhood even as Tony R. Boies has declared the cassette culture revolution dead.

The Definition of Salesianum

Members of the Blacksburg duo Salesianum may be studying conversational Japanese in their spare time. Their cassette Malahashi features some broken and guttural grunts that don’t translate well. The Salesianum sound is tough to pin down as well. Is it noise? Is it Jazz? (The purists say, “Hell No!”} Is it jazz-noise? It’s a sonic freakfest, with energy; horns that go mad, doors that slam, live stuff with George Willard on drums and I know how much of a selling point that is. Expect their Shrimper cassingle to come out in November(?). Trumpeter Wes Lang has also been working on his own rendition of Finn McCool’s “Soliloquy.”

Charlie McAlister and George Willard to Tour

Solo underground hometaper sensations, McAlister and Willard have teamed up to tour the nation in November and December. The two
songwriters will accompany each other in varying degrees. George Willard is attempting to scientifically perfect his set list by using methods ascribed to the inventors of Muzak. “Out of the hundreds of songs I’ve written and the few I’ve tried live I’m looking for the formula for success,” Willard said.

George Willard Releases Recording On the Flannel Banjo Label

Charlie McAlister’s Flannel Banjo label has released 11 new George Willard songs under the particularly long title of …And Flatlanders Aren’t Welcome, Genuine Hill People Music From George Willard. The tape features Willard’s experiments in a country music style. “Well, shoot this tape came out a little more cosmopolitan country then the fleabag, ah shucks, haystack or hay seed country that I had originally envisioned but it’s still a bit more of an excursion than usual,” Willard said. Those interested can order the tape for $4 from Flannel Banjo, The Fire Ant Mound, 1439 Glencoe, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464

Dateless In Dover

Lisa “Suckdog” Carver has recently relocated to her old haunts of Dover, New Hampshire with her son Wolfgang. In the November issue of Details magazine, Carver discussed her broken relationship with underground noisemeister Boyd Rice. She revealed that she’s now ready to date again. How can the married Tony R. Boies, who coordinated the Nut compilation Generation XL in Love With Lisa Suckdog (Editor’s note: renamed Beasts Of The Night Gather Together) and went so far to press a limited number of CDs, resist? If Tony’s marital bonds prove too great, Lisa is looking for an emotionally-disturbed guy who is willing to relocate.

Finn Toots with Tone

Alzo Bozsormenyi band member Finn McCool joined the horn section of Tone the DC based guitar orchestra for it’s November 8th performance at the 9:30 Club. Finn played French Horn. To prepare for the performance, Finn endured a rigorous regime of scales and lip-ups. The show was the last performance for Tone drummer Phil Krauth.

Salesianum Inspires Words and Slurs

Rob Thornton from the ‘zine Read the Fucking Manual declares Salesianum to be “better than Noggin’.” While Conan Sugarsmak broadcast Salesianum’s Malahashi recording to rid himself of an annoying neighbor. “I popped in Salesianum, turned it up. She was out of there in three minutes,” Smack said. Read the Nut Story: A lengthy interview with Nut founder David Craig appears in Read the Fucking Manual #2. Write RTFM P.O.
