This movie is written in a way to get the audience invested in the two villains: Barbara Minerva and Maxwell Lord. For a good while, it works with the former but tails off towards the end. For Donald Trump stand-in Maxwell Lord, despite a solid performance by Pedro Pascal, I don’t think the connection ever works as intended.
Gal Gadot (Diana Prince) and Chris Pine (Steve Trevor) are just fine reprising their roles from the first Wonder Woman movie. There are solid action sequences and some great visuals, including the opening which shows a young Diana competing against her older sister Amazonians in a decathlon-style competition.
The climax of the movie didn’t hit for me personally, but I can definitely see what director/co-writer Patty Jenkins was going for.
