With a budget on the smaller end, this adaptation of Dean Koontz’s novel cuts corners on the plot as well. There is not a good enough exploration of the mother’s abuse of the son, which is really the foundation of the psychotic killer’s actions. Apparently they did run out of money making this movie. At around 95 minutes, it would have benefited by five minutes or so better explaining the abuse backstory, and the twist, which I won’t go into.

And I definitely take away one paw for the awfully-written portrayal of the Satanist bookstore guy. And the scene with two cops trying to apprehend the drug dealer in his car.

I give it 1 out of 4 paws: lion paw
