This movie is a mess.
A former mental patient and her son move into her therapist-turned-lover’s colonial-era home, which had been occupied by a slave owner cursed to become a demon. The demon subsequently killed his wife and child, and the spirits of all three seem to now be influencing the new inhabitants.
That doesn’t sound too bad of a plot, but the execution…it turns into a cornucopia of twisted hallucination sequences which are either intentionally or unintentionally darkly comedic, and the kid shifts between “dumb horror movie kid” to kid who actually does something when it is needed. Oh, and there is a dead handyman who is hanging from a rope next to one of the bedroom windows for…several days? He is never noticed by the family, neighbors, anyone who cares to have been wondering why he never made it home one day from work, etc. — but they can kind of smell his rotting body from inside the house.
